How to beat the Heat: No excuses
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra was asked Monday if he had a plan to beat LeBron James and the Heat in Game 7.
“I’ve got no plans to say that,” Spoelstras said.
“We’re going to try to make sure that we can win this series.
The Heat (30-15) have lost eight of their past nine games, including a 114-95 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday. “
This series is going to be about us, and it’s about us playing our best basketball.”
The Heat (30-15) have lost eight of their past nine games, including a 114-95 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday.
They shot just 26.3 percent from the field and made just 22 of 36 3-point attempts.
They trailed by as many as 22 points in the third quarter before blowing a 21-point lead.
James had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Wade had 22 points and 17 rebounds in his return to Miami.
“Everybody is going through a tough time right now, but we’re not going to stop and give up,” James said.
James has averaged 26.4 points in his past four games against Miami, but he has been limited to 15.0 points on 46.8 percent shooting over the last five matchups.
“If you want to be successful, you have to play your best game,” James added.
“When you play your game, and you do your job, then the rest of the game’s up to you.”
James, however, did not practice Monday due to a bruised right knee and will likely miss Game 7, which is in Miami’s home arena.
“It’s tough, but it’s part of the process of playing basketball,” James told reporters.
“There’s always room for improvement.
If I’m not at 100 percent, I don’t care if it’s the first game or the third game, it’s not going anywhere.”
The Nets (12-29) were coming off a 114 in a 115-105 win at Memphis on Sunday night.
The Nets shot 54.7 percent and hit 13 of 26 3-pointers.
They were limited to 37.9 percent from behind the arc and committed 17 turnovers.
“What we’re trying to do is stay focused,” coach Jason Kidd said.
Brooklyn was held to 38.7 per cent shooting in the first half.
“That’s when it gets tough,” Kidd said of the team’s defensive lapses.
“They’re playing good defense, but they’re not playing their best.”
The game was played at Miami’s practice facility, which has a capacity of 4,000.
Miami’s previous best performance against the Nets came in 2007, when the Heat held Brooklyn to 43.9 per cent from the floor.
